For a relaxing day outdoors, spend the day at a historical farm near Germantown. The Agricultural History Farm Park offers a fun, scenic place to learn about the farm’s past, present, and future. It is open from sunrise to sunset, and it’s about 18 minutes from our apartments in Germantown, MD. Here is some of what you can enjoy during your visit:

Explore the trails 

Don’t miss exploring over five miles of trails that meander through the park. Along the way, you will find the connecting Percheron Trail, which leads to where the trees and ornamental plants are grown for the county’s 36,000-acre plus park system. Take a break from your trek at the Activity Center, open during the week between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Magruder-Bussard Farmstead 

The Magruder-Bussard Farmstead offers a fun look into early 20th-century farm life. This historical farm near Germantown is an example of early agricultural architecture, featuring the original stone and log structure that the family preserved even after multiple updates over the century. Other traditional farm structures can also be found, including a log smokehouse, chicken coop, water tower, and hay barracks. You can tour the farmhouse during special events.

Bank Barn

Standing since the late 1800s, the Bussard’s constructed the bank barn with the help of barn builders from a nearby county. It features German siding and a stone foundation and was the farm’s most important asset. The farmers used the building to thresh grain, milk cows, and house draft animals. Today, the barn is open year-round for visitors.
